Food Service Code Revisions
Dear Boarding Home Provider:
As you know, Boarding Homes are considered food service establishments by the state Department of Health and are required to comply with Chapter 246-215 Washington Administrative Code (WAC) - Food Service Regulations.
The Department of Health (DOH) has announced that the State Board of Health has accepted the final revision of Chapter 246-215 WAC, which provides the safety standards for food served or sold by a food service establishment to the public in Washington State. The revisions will become effective May 2, 2005.
Changes:
- The majority of the current Chapter 246-215 WAC will be repealed and the majority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Code Edition 2001 will be adopted with some Washington State modifications.
- The licensing process will not change; actions related to food code issues will continue to be handled with the current methods.

Department of Health has stated that free training within each region of the state will be provided on the Food Code, Edition 2001, with the modifications. If you have any questions regarding training, please refer to the enclosed contact list and call the person for your area.
