BOARDING HOME INSPECTION INTERVAL
Dear Boarding Home Provider:
The legislature recently passed Substitute House Bill 1694 – An act relating to the timing of the inspection of boarding homes; and amending RCW 18.20.110. The Governor signed the legislation on May 14, 2003, and it will be effective July 27, 2003.
The law changes the inspection interval from at least yearly to “…every eighteen months with an annual average of fifteen months…” Also new are the following provisions:
- The department may delay an inspection to twenty-four months if the boarding home has had three consecutive inspections with no written notice of violations and has received no written notice of violations resulting from complaint investigation during that same time period; and
- The department may at anytime make an unannounced inspection of a licensed home to assure that the licensee is in compliance with this chapter and the rules adopted under this chapter.
The effective date of the legislation is July 27, 2003. Boarding home survey schedules after that date will be staggered in compliance with the new timeframes.
