SUBJECT: TRAINING WAC IMPLEMENTATION
Dear Boarding Home Provider:
On September 1, 2002, new training rules will go into effect (WAC 388-112), implementing laws on training passed in 2000 and amended in 2002. There is a summary of the training requirements at the beginning of the packet of information. This mailing will give you the information, instructions, and forms you will need, to help you understand and work with the few changes in the rules.
These rules include some new training requirements for boarding homes, especially those that do not contract with DSHS for state clients. As of September 1, 2002, these training rules apply to all licensed boarding homes.
The new rules will allow more flexibility in training in several ways. First, when the rules go into effect, it will be possible for a boarding home to offer training for the home's staff in several types of training, if the instructor and the home meet certain requirements. The requirements, and the form you must use to notify DSHS that you would like to offer training, are enclosed. You must notify DSHS and receive written approval before you begin training.
Second, it may be possible to use other curriculums for basic and specialty training, besides the ones developed by DSHS. A curriculum has to meet the requirements in the WAC, and it must be approved by DSHS before it may be used.
To request the learning outcomes for use in developing an alternative curriculum, contact Tresa Harambasic at 360-725-2548, or haramtj@dshs.wa.gov. If you have questions after you review these materials, please contact: Marta Acedo at 360-725-2549, or acedom@dshs.wa.gov.
Sincerely,
Patricia K. Lashway, Director
