REVISED RE-INSPECTION PROCESS
Dear Adult Family Home Provider:
The re-inspection process used by RCS licensing staff has recently been revised. Trainings on the revised re-inspection process were offered for both AFH providers and RCS staff throughout the state during September 2003. All AFH licensors began implementation of the revised re-inspection process effective October 1, 2003.
Providers were notified on July 21, 2003, of the scheduled trainings available during September in their regions. A comprehensive review of the revised re-inspection process and handouts were provided at the trainings. The revised process is resident centered with the focus on quality of life, quality of care, resident rights and provision of services for all residents. All re-inspections are unannounced and will include the following procedures and tasks:
- Pre-Inspection Preparation;
- Entrance;
- Tour;
- Cursory review of sample resident care plans;
- Interviews: resident, staff and collateral contacts;
- Record Review;
- Observation of Care;
- Medication Service review;
- Food Service review;
- Abuse/Neglect Prevention review;
- Exit Preparation; and
- Exit
The Observation of Care, Food Service review, Medication Service review and Abuse/Neglect Prevention review are incorporated into the tour, interview, and record review process.
If you have further questions regarding the revised re-inspection process, please contact your RCS Field Manager.
Sincerely,
Patricia K. Lashway, Director
