AASA: BH #2000-023
SUBJECT: BH Interim Guideline #29 Advance Directives, End of Life Choices
and BH Interim Guideline #23: CPR/No CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
Dear Boarding Home Provider:
The following revision of guidance reflects extensive discussion between the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Effective November 15, 2000, Interim Guideline #23, dated January 26, 2000, will be rescinded. Enclosed you will find Interim Guideline #29, dated October 16, 2000, which clarifies the responsibility of boarding homes related to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), medical emergencies and advance directives. You will also find a Guideline instruction related to the January 26, 2000 Guideline #23 (CPR/No CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)).
Boarding homes need to have written policies and procedures that are related to these resident needs. Staff need to be trained on these policies and procedures. Written copies must be provided to residents and their representative, in a language that they can understand, prior to admission to the boarding home.
Please remove Interim Guideline #23, dated January 26, 2000, replace it with Guideline instruction, and add Interim Guideline #29, dated October 16, 2000.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact the RCS Field Manager in your area.
Sincerely,
Patricia K. Lashway, Director
