AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES ADMINISTRATION

September 21, 2000

AASA: BH #2000-020
SUBJECT: MANDATORY REPORTING TRAINING

Dear Boarding Home Provider:

The department has just concluded a joint project with advocates, providers, and department staff. The purpose of the project was to clarify implementation of the law regarding abuse of vulnerable adults (RCW 74.34). The law mandates reporting of abuse, neglect, abandonment, financial exploitation, and sexual and physical assault of vulnerable adults to the department. It also mandates the reporting of sexual and physical assault to local law enforcement.

Please find enclosed, the new guidelines for mandatory reporting in boarding homes.

Aging and Disability Services Administration (AASA) and provider associations will jointly present training sessions on the requirements of RCW 74.34, Abuse of Vulnerable Adults and the new guidelines. The department’s licensing staff and managers will attend these trainings.

These requirements may represent a change in your current practice. Since the law requires every facility employee to be a mandatory reporter, all employees can benefit from the training. The training dates and sites are as follows:
