SUBJECT: RATE INCREASE AND RURAL TRAINING TUITION CHANGE

Dear Boarding Home Provider:

This is to provide you with information on residential care rate increases authorized by the Legislature to become effective January 1, 2000. The purpose of these increases is to raise staff wages in these residential care settings to a minimum of $6.50 per hour statewide and to fund a tuition increase for
caregiving training in rural areas. These rate increases affect Assisted Living, Adult Residential Care, Enhanced Adult Residential Care and Adult Family Home services.

The legislative intent is to increase access to several types of training, including Fundamentals of Caregiving, Modified Fundamentals of Caregiving, and Nurse Delegation for Nursing Assistants. To do this, the educators in rural counties are allowed to increase tuition to a maximum of $5.00 per student hour for these training sessions, from the $4.08 an hour they are currently allowed to charge. This additional tuition is to provide for the smaller class sizes experienced in rural areas of our state.

To fund these increases, residential care rates will be adjusted from July 1, 1999 levels as listed below.
