AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES ADMINISTRATION
Adult Family Home Advisory Committee
ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
In an effort to ensure a cooperative process among the department, adult family home provider representatives, and resident and family representatives on matters pertaining to the adult family home program an Adult Family Home Advisory Committee has been established in 70.129.225 RCW.
Committee meetings are scheduled on a quarterly basis to encourage open dialogue on matters affecting the adult family home program. This includes the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) inspection, enforcement, and quality improvement activities. DSHS also seeks comments and recommendations from the Committee prior to the adoption of rules and standards, implementation of adult family home provider programs, or development of methods and rates of payment.
The Committee meetings are held in Lacey at DSHS, Residential Care Services headquarters. All of the Committee meets are open public meetings and individuals are encouraged to attend.
The Committee is comprised of eight members representing various adult family home interest groups. The composition of the Committee members is also established in the law. The Committee members are representatives of the industry and include:
- Four adult family home providers, at least two of whom are affiliated with recognized adult family home associations;
- One representative from the state long-term care ombudsman program;
- One representative from the statewide resident council program;
- One from general authority Washington law enforcement agency; and
- Two representatives of families and other consumers
The chairperson is a member of the Committee and is appointed by the Secretary of the Department of Social and Health Services and serves for a one-year term.
Committee members are appointed by the Director of Residential Care Services and serve for two-year terms.
Based upon available funding from licensing fees, Committee members are eligible for travel and per diem when attending the quarterly Committee meetings.
